The turbo four might not be as smooth as the previous six, but i am sure it will have as much torque (if not more) and will be more efficient. Bmw won the 1969 etcc with a 2002tik (turbo), then won the 1984 f1 championship with a turbo four. Did anyone forget about the e21 flying bricks with monster turbo motors? I have been longing for a very long time for the return of a turbo four. Thanks bmw.

Seriously, why are people complaining this is a bad thing? More power, less weight and better fuel economy. I fail to see the downside.

Am all for it. I would love a turbo 4 3 series or 1 series, but call me old fashioned. I love a screaming high reving motor. I doubt they can the I6. Certain kind of buyers prefer the smoothness of the bigger motor with out paying more for gas with the V8.

I have no problem with using the new 4s! I love the sixes and I prefer an NA motor but for a 1 or 3 series I think it's a great move

Im not ready to read all the posts, but the HQ building in Munich is 4 tall cylinders because thats what BMW's rise to awesomeness that started in the 60's was built on. Im not saying good or bad, Im just throwing a little history out there for the n3wbz.

WTF? The m10 made less power how it could a m42 be slower?

I believe in BMW's engineering, but I really doubt the reliability of engines like that.
It would be a really retarded idea to stop one of the most reliable engines in the world. The bix sixes can get very close to "legendary diesel" mileage. I've seen M50s with well over 300k miles.
Direct injection TT I6 is the way to go. The N54B30 seems fucking awesome. An engine producing well over 300hp at over 24MPG = major win.

You should try a 2002 with that hp, even better.

Can't wait till they start stacking them up so I can stuff one in another 2002.

                              No.

                              E34 got the 8 valve M40.

All 5 series generations have been offered with 4 cylinder engines in one form or another.

cuz of the weight of the e34...i know m10 is made less then m42. if u do the power to weight ratio...im sure a m10 e30 would be faster
