What you can use to your advantage is Tuition Assistance, which is $6,500 in free money to go to school. Most bases have the same collages on the installation that will suck that TA dry in 5 classes. But still 5 classes a year for free while you work full time is a full load. Especially with ATC who often work rotating shifts (2 days, 2 swings, 2 mids, 2 off).
Most people, especially first termers, don't take advantage of TA for good reasons. Once you get out of tech school, you have CDC's to finish (FAA ratings for ATC) then you need to finish your regular upgrade training. Throw in a deployment or two, and all of a sudden it's been 3 years since you've joined and you haven't touched a book.
Or you can get stuck at a sleepy hollow base with a very slow pace and an awesome supervisor that kicks you in the dick to go to school... it all depends.
