Do it. As much as I love e30's, I can't stand how something new breaks/starts to rattle every month. You can find plenty of E30s around the Northeast for a decent price..

I was offered a screaming deal on a 2002 330 cabrio a few week back and let it go. I want another e46 in my life but the above factors kicked in. If it were the color combo I wanted, it would be on my driveway but it wasnt. If its your perfect car, go for it!
Edit: I forgot to mention I would have only given up only one of my e30s. I will always own an e30 as long as I am fortunate enough!

make the trade! I love my E30 and would never sell it for the little money its worth. But Having had a 330i ZHP and always wanting an E46 M3 I vote trade! You can buy another E30 like the one(s) you have for $7-9k down the road.
Enjoy the E46!

Factor in the cost of rebuilding another E30 down the road and this looks like a mediocre deal. If you're sure you want to make the jump, it's a good one.2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD LBZ/Allison

Damn shoulda made a poll.
The reason he is temptedto make the trade is because he wants a winter car which my 325i is and a summer car which the 318 is. The problem I am having is the 318 came from Cali when I first bought it Aka there is NO RUST ANYWHERE. finding a car that old with rust in new England is worth it's weight in gold.
I really do want to trade but the only thing I am afraid of is the price of parts for anything I have been looking on m3 forums about typical issues and reccomended upgrades it appears that the m requires about 1,000-2,000 dollars in maintenance each year. Is this a realistic figure I plan on keeping this car in brand new condition religiously? Not to mention when I priced out brakes came back with an average of $850 Ish. For front and rear rotors.
FYI yes I know about the inspection II and the valve adjustment I would be doingthat myself my mother already agreed to buy me the $350 specialty tool since I would be getting out of my "unsafe e30" and into a "safer m3" she of course referring to structural integrity and #of airbags.
The only other thing is I would no lover have a winter vehicle which means I would have to drve the m3 through winter. Obviously I would get snow tires but is it really a vehicle that can handle new England winters?
I am a college undergrad so money is never readily available but I have enough to make repairs and modify here and there. So knowing that would you still do it?sigpic

M3s are great in the winter, you wouldn't have a problem with it. You should expect to spend more than $2000 in maintenance yearly. Parts aren't cheap. I would honestly wait until you can afford a third e30 beater for around a grand or two, than trade. Or you can do what others say and take the e46 m3 and sell it, buy an e30 m3 and another e30.
