Don't do it. Buy dream car after school. Your e30's sound like they have sentimental value and are appreciating (especially the is).

It really depends on your situation. Having owned an e46 M3, I must say that I absolutely loved the car. It wasn't extremely expensive to own, but things did go wrong that required immediate repairs. I had a 2001 for just over 2 years and did a fair bit of regular e46 maintenance. I replaced the final stage resistor, coil packs, Inspection II, camshaft position sensor just to name a few. As you have mentioned, it is the consumables on the e46 that are much more expensive than an e30, tires, brakes, oil. If you have the time and resources (money) to take care of an e46 M3, you will love it. The only reason I sold mine was to buy the only other car I wanted more, an e30 M3. As soon as my wife says I can have two toys, I will be in the market for an e46 M3 again. I won't be getting rid of my e30 anytime soon, but I do miss the scream of an S54 approaching redline. Good luck with your decision.

You'll get the E46 M3. Drive it for awhile and love it. The slow bleed of money starts and bleeds you dry. Now you're eating stolen ramen noodles and you're 60 days past due on rent. You'll sell the E46 M3 so you can turn the heat back on in your apartment. You have $900 left and you need a car. Say hello to your new E30...

Definately worth the trade, what are both of the e30's worth? 8-9k? 14-16k for the M3? it's a no brainer. And if the maintenance costs are to crazy for the M3 i will trade you my s50 swapped cab for it:

I was offered a screaming deal on a 2002 330 cabrio a few week back and let it go. I want another e46 in my life but the above factors kicked in. If it were the color combo I wanted, it would be on my driveway but it wasnt. If its your perfect car, go for it!

Edit: I forgot to mention I would have only given up only one of my e30s. I will always own an e30 as long as I am fortunate enough!

                  Why not.......????

I have since 1986. Usually more than one...LOL. In recent years at least.
