Some interesting discussion on the MB diesel forums about this...

Anyone notice the slap-in-the-face to our diesels in the BMW diesel ad during the Superbowl today? Was it a 115 or a 123 they were implying was slow

nowhere near the quality of the MINI Countryman commercial IMO.

meh, MB guys are taking it like a slap in the face. I think they were only trying to show us stupid americans that new turbo diesels arent like what people think of when they think diesel.

Because honestly. Old volvos, MBs and 524td were slow, noisy and very smelly. Ive been behind all of them on the interstate. Downshift and pass please!

But half the fun of owning one of these old, smelly diesels is torturing tail gating Prius and Insight drivers. Floor it and watch them disappear in the tanker explosion behind you. Guaranteed to never tail gate you again or your money back.

Theres always going to be SOME people offended at something. The fact that its MB "enthusiasts" that are offended makes the commercial that much more enjoyable. Liked the music. I would, however, like BMW to start going back to their funnier commercials of years past, besides all this "BMW is Joy" waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswafflesry of the past few years.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

I'm going to guess that most people driving around an old Volvo or Benz diesel aren't likely to be purchasing a $50-60k BMW anyway..

As an owner of a Mercedes-Benz 300SD (turbo diesel), they have every right to call that thing a stinky, smoke-blowing, carbon-footprint-leaving piece of machinery.

It's not maintained to fucking dealer standards, but man does that thing stink. I have to let it idle for at least 5 minutes to try and clear all the smoke out of that shit, and even then when I roll down the windows it reeks like diesel smoke.

I'm also a member on the peachpart forums, and they are as "purist" and self-involved as they come in terms of a forum community.

Needless to say, DO WANT 335d!
