It's not easy to protect them, but the DMCA and other copyright acts basically give you a copyright by default if you develop some intellectual property. I also have HakenTT emailing the files around to people for free...

I already pm'd Mark about this and sent him my transaction info from Joaquin Perez, but I thought I would post in here anyways just for the sake of the thread and discussion, etc...

I bought what was allegedly a used markD 93 oct 19lb chip in a 173 ecu along with a set of injectors from r3vde30 a little while back.

Ever since I put them in the car it hasn't been quite right, and for some reason I never thought to question the chip...

So, today after seeing this thread I went and tossed in the ecu with the stock chip and even with the 19lb injectors still in, the car is wayyyyy more driveable than it had been prior with the fakepieceofshitcopy chip installed. There is less power on the top end, but overall the car actually runs somewhat proper and actually has a mildly usable powerband.

I'm pissed I bought that stuff when I did. I should've known better; it was too good to be true.

As soon as I am financially able I plan to go direct to Mark and buy a REAL chip.

Yes he is. And from what I have seen, not a very friendly or honest one at that. I tried a few times to buy some susp parts from him. After that experience, I ignore all his threads.

I hope you can get some recourse on this. Its sad that people have to lie cheat and steal from others in order to make a fast dishonest buck.

But then really if you think it through, 95% of these products are hand/homemade by guys just like us.. enthusiasts. Supporting them is like supporting something you believe in. So really.. what's an extra hundred dollars if it's going to maintain a product flow as well as support our TINY community?

Yes I make those, I developed them around 1999. I used to sell quite a few those but that has gone dead also. I also have a 93 octane version for the 540i 6 speed that works REALLY well.

I usually only tune s14s remotely when they have has some special work done on them, such as higher compression or different cams. But yes I do have chips which I developed for it. I have various chips tha never got added to my site, because I though I was going to completely re-do the site and add them all then.

I'm sad, and sorry to say that I bought a chipped ECU from the first guy you were talking about Mark. He sold it as a used 173 ECU with a MarkD chip for $150.

Damn, all I can say is...I did not know. I'm also sorry to say that I don't have any records of buying it from him. Please let me know if I can help. I will try and find something.
