Look at how stupid I am: Moldy Interior

So my car blew a head gasket a while back and I parked it outside. I then bought a winter car and proceeded to procure a new motor. In those few months, this is what happened:

So, the entire interior is fucked. the headliner looks maybe okay, the seat belts look like some disgusting fur was wrapped around them.

My plan: gut interior, buy a new seat, salvage (try) dash, seatbelts, shift knob steering wheel. Buy a new shell when I have time/money (this summer) drive this until then. (put in my s50 I had waiting for it...)

Your plan: some advice? Anyone? And I dont' have the money/time to find the right shell right now.

Advice: Anyone have experience removing mold? Recommend a product? Tell me I'm stupid (I really didn't even think about this)? etc.

Northwest people: Anyone have a comfort seat or any cheap(free) interior bits to get me onto the road?

I would try to wipe everything down with Wesleys Bleachwhite. It's what the old guys use to get whitewalls white again. try to vacuum it all out first though. so sorry for you.

Gut entire interior, start over. Mold is bad news. It's most likely in your ventilation system, heater box, etc. Buy a wreck and get to work.

Most of that can be cleaned, just take the seats and carpet out and let them dry fully then go to town on the rest. And find your leak haha

Bleach solution or any good antibacterial / antimicrobial cleaner should remove the mold and stop it from coming back. They make these kid's antibacterial toy cleaning wipes that might work too. They're non-toxic and you don't have to rinse after using them. We use them whenever we buy kid toys at garage sales.

You should clean your car more often.

wtf is going on up there? damn. That's the craziest shit I've ever seen happen to an E30. I've killed mold in carpet but this is on another level. I would still try to salvage it though. First, get a good mask. I would mix some water/Lysol to disinfect. Carpet fresh/baking soda works well on the carpet and to remove the residual odor in the cabin. Lysol aerosol for the vents. It's going to take some work and plenty of lysol but you can save your interior. When it's ready to air out, try running a large fan inside of the car to get any remaining moisture out. Leave the carpet fresh/baking soda under the carpet and inside the cabin for a while.

Thanks Mike. Probably going to gut it, then figure something out. I'm guessing carpet and seats are toast, just too dense and I don't want to be breathing it in. I can roll carpet-less for a few months.

Thats what I'm thinking, I don't have time at the moment for a new shell though, need to do something to hold me over.

Whole car leaks, but didn't want to investigate since I need a new shell.

Good call on the wipes. My parents said the same thing. See note below as to why I wasn't cleaning it.

How can I bleach the whole system, aside from taking out teh dash which I really don't want to do.

I think Il'l gut everything out and then try to salvage what I can. Good tips on the baking soda.

To everyone: The shell is overall in bad shape, I had been planning on a new shell at some point in the future which is wy I was neglecting this one... just didn't see this coming.

Does it smell? If it does, you'll never get the smell out of that car.
