We did this with my friend's European cloth sport seat from his imported car, we eventually took it apart, and I think he sold the seat on ebay.

Old thread, but might as well throw in my recent contribution to this phenomenon.

nice. ive seen a guy do that with e34 power seats and he had it set up with regular chair legs and casters and somehow had it hooked up to power, so he could still adjust everything electronically

You know those sports seats are worth $600-800 in australia. I hate you :(

                    Nice.

Why don't you build an armrest off of the base out of wood. From there you could put some sort of padding on top of the wood armrest and cover it with cloth. Then you have a comfortable sturdy armrest. Hang some cloth from the bottom or clean it up a bit and it will be nice.

Anyways nice chair. Good work Nathan!

very nice man, i was thinking of doing the same but using a modified base from one of the office chairs at work, possibly extending the legs out so it could support the seat. i also want to turn my current e30 rear seats and such into a couch one day, that would be awesome.

I did that last year. I sat in it, leaned it back and immediately fell over. Props for building one that doesn't do that.
