Low profile jack stands?

When I buy house, my brother in law and I are going to go in on one together, just have to find a place with a tall enough garage/shop.

Or get a loan and work on other peoples cars on the lift until you pay it off lol.

This. I'm doing this this Summer if I can't find a nice E36 M3....or Classic Mini/TR6/MGB.....for which I will still need a lift to work on...ugh.

Difference is the lift will help me make more money. The cars will take more money.

you don't need jackstands just to change wheels. jack the car up from the side, under the front frame rails, and do one side at a time. just don't crawl under there while it's up in the air.

This. Quick and simple.

If you need to do work on suspension stuff, jack works as well too. I will usually slide the wheel under the car for added security as well. As long as you aren't under the car and the car is on at least 2 wheels, a jack works fine.

I've had too many close calls (1) to not take an extra 30 seconds to put a jackstand under the frame.

For suspension work? Never.

I was a huge proponent of, "Don't be such a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles. Get the fuck under that car and get that control arm off!". Up until the day when a 6ton car jack started losing hydraulic fluid out of the rusty fill plug. I got out but really wasn't into the whole car slowly starting to come at my face/chest. I thought my buddy was fucking with me and when he said, "Get out, dude!" I boogied.

Don't waste your money on jacks and stands. Put that money in a little jar on your dresser and each time you want to buy a jack/stands, put that money in there. Eventually, you will have enough to buy a lift.

Maybe all the money that goes into beer when I come to work at your place should be put in a little jar. Eventually we will have enough for a lift. ;)

I'd also need to convince my dad to pave/drop gravel through the yard up to the barn. It'd be so perfect!

Also there is a place that sells crusher rock for like 50 bucks a truckload in draft. Took like 6 truckloads to do my driveway last year.

I put stands under the car for everything. It's just common sense.

Jacks are meant for lifting. Stands for supporting.

I would use them for suspension work. but for a 5 minute tire change - I've done it many hundreds of times - my jack pad is also large and the front frame is nowhere near a gas tank. If the jack collapses at worst the car will be resting on the jack with no tires on it. I don't recall ever seeing anyone put jackstands under their car for changing over to race tires either.

I'm not crawling under the damn car like that though - and I bring stands with me to the track just in case I had to, like if I need to bleed the brakes or something that requires more than a minute or two of support.

To be more specific I have a full shop to work in, but I am refinishing my wheels and only have the one set so the car will be in the air for 1-2 weeks. Can't tie up a bay for that long. Not a very common occasion though, just thought of them and figured they'd be cool to have haha.
