OOOOK, so I bought an 87 ES with 140K miles, and no rust. From the pictures, it was clear that the car was fairly well taken care of, and the paint looked good - thought it was royalblau. Basketweaves, nice tires, runs great, needs a pass rear wheel bearing. Black vinyl interior is shot. Basically every interior panel has some form of damage - no biggie, I have 6 of everything anyways. Came with a pretty nice clarion deck and some legacy front 6.5's cut into the factory kicks, and 6x9 kenwoods in the rear - sounds pretty decent.
Bought the car with multiple close ups, knowing it had no rust and ran well, all for $900. I'm happy with the deal for all that I got. The things I need for it I already have (besides the bearing), and I got a low mileage, rust free ES with lots of extras.
Unfortunately, pictures really can't get the job done as well as they should. The car is very clean, no rust, anywhere. But...pop the trunk and hood, and strangely, a different color lies everywhere else...
...yup...bronzit :) The respray was poorly done, and they literally sprayed the car as it stands - the only "extra" they did was the door jambs. Everywhere else is still bronzit. Whatever, the paint looks good from 5-10 feet and further, it looks better than my rusty faded zinno beater, and I'm sure with a little polishing it'll look fine. It's just a beater for the next few months, then it'll spend it's life as a daily/track rat while I build my euro. So for what it is, the car is perfect. I would rather they had just left it factory color, but you can't win them all.
The seller, btw, is an awesome guy, was never dishonest, and gave me a ton of free shit. He's making room for his 05 white M3, so he was glad to see it go to a good home ;)
My story has a moral, I swear - if the car looks that good in pics, and you really care if it looks that good (unlike me), see it in person - maaco jobs on computer pics can look damn fine.
