Tucking/painting DB's

i want to tuck my DB's but honestly i'm too much of a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles to drive my car into a tire against a wall :)
is there any other way to do this?
i was thinking what if i took the bumpers off, as well as the shocks, then i drill a whole in the shock so it can lose fluid, and compress it in a vice?
would this workk...
also,
i want to paint my DB's
i was thinking, i'll paint the outer plastic trim the zinno color my car is, which could be expensive? and then for the DB itself i'm not sure if it would look better painted zinno also with the black trim, or painted black... i sorta like the way ubernasty did his with the black bumper and matching plastic outer trim.

The shock oil is under pressure so as soon as you drill them they will spray out in a violent matter or fog out in a fine mist.
So maybe you should read up a little more so you know whats going on.
Not that hard though. take them off, drill into them but keep a rag or some sort of cover between the drilled area and your face.
Once drilled you can hit them with a hammer or whatever. A vice probably will not work as it may not open wide enough.
I've always drilled into them whil on the car then either pushed, kicked or hammer (while protecting the bumper) them in.
But I'm in TX so there is no rust or seizing to worry about.

As far as painting them or the surrounds goes, the later metal bumpered verts all came with smooth body colored surrounds from the factory.
Painting the surrounds and bumper itself while keeping the impact strip always looks the cleanest.

how much you think a decent shop would charge to spray both surrounds and metal bumpers with the zinno color code?

Just do it yourself. Cheapest and most rewarding. Not sure but I think there are areas from surround which should be trimmed to prevent ‘wavyness’ – or maybe they all do that with enough sun damage.

Clean/scuff/prep well.

Take you time and bomb it with appropriate color from Automotive TouchUp
Plastic adhesion promoter for surrounds. Primer for metal. Color. Clear. Great tips. No other equipment to buy.

Do some reading. You’ll want to colorsand/buff out clearcoat when you’re done anyway – so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Use SEM black for trim.

I think the biggest bitches would be getting old hardware off – and scuffing down chrome on bumper.

Tape, sandpaper, and paint for ~$80?
Shit - I guess you wouldn't even need tape so long as all parts were off the car..

I'de hate to give you the wrong information, but letting a shop do the whole project is smarter IMO. They'll most likely re-sand your bumpers anyways. Plus, they might charge you the same price for if you had done them in the first place. Save money, the economy blows.
