Nothing shitty about a 318Ti good mileage and peppy enough and cheap enough to attract new blood into BMW just the same way the old 318i or the 325e was.

BMW needs a base entry 25k-31k car it served that purpose unlike the current 128i it's base starts at shy below 30k and quickly hits high 30's. This is why they are not selling well, it's overpriced.

Really what they care about is the Status symbol as you mentioned and a zero dollar buy in on the lease and zero cost maintenance program.

Focus RS is a cool car it's too bad the NHTSA and Insurance would kill it off here. Very surprised that WRX/STi and Evo xyz's have survived.

I think its good that BMW is broadening their market appeal... I just hope the fundage they get from selling these will go towards something more 'proper'. I could see these being a decent success overseas, but here in the states, I don't see the market for a econo BMW. A lot of variables, but in the big scheme of things, I see this being a positive move for them... regardless of excessive criticism they will recieve from enthusiasts. These models do not deserve "The Ultimate Driving Machine" slogan.

Excuse us for being shitty that a company we support, who has been building cars for the past 80+ years, has been successful on RWD & AWD platforms in the common market as well as multiple racing classes.
