    It's OUT!

yep, wanted to try my luck at cutting it from below and nothing special happened it would not budge if I banged it from below upwards. Then I did what I probably should have done from the beginning and got to grinding the nut off, I guess I just didn't want to because I didn't want to get a scrape on the strut support (seems like a feminine emotion in retrospect). I was starting to think that the tie rod end bolt would be permanently stuck but after two or three days of ignoring it besides a blast of pb blaster here and there I grabbed a hammer and lightly tapped it two or three times and *ploop* it came right out.

So before I even grabbed the keys to go rent a tie rod puller I went to the other side where the nut was normal and already off and did the same thing. Two or three taps on the top of the bolt and it came right out. Again, this was after two or three days of spraying penetrating oil on the stuck side and out of habit I just did the working side as well. So if you have time (about 4 days) you don't need a tie rod puller, just spray it with some penetrating oil frequently and on the 4th day or so lightly tap on the bolt and it should come right out. Although I'm throwing these tie rods away this seems like a perfect way to get a tie rod out without using the puller that tears your rubber boots and since all it took was a few light taps there was no damage done to the bolt.

well, late but here's a picture of the tie rod end bolt after we cut it and here's the lack of thread on the nut that made me cut the it in the first place.

blunt tech saves the day!!! First time I've used them and I gotta say, they're soooo nice and helpful, I'll definitely keep them in mind from now on. :)

I guess there's a shortage of e36 right side tie rod ends and I needed both sides for my z3 steering rack swap and I kept getting lip and attitude from other places.

update, i didn't know the tie rod ends didn't come with the hex nuts and clamp ring sooooo blunt tech definitely had the best price but I'm still waiting on them since they were "BMW specific parts".

aaaannnnnd now they're stuck in 55212 :( It's my first experience with this zip code but from what I hear it's not pretty. wish me luck

well, it was a good birthday for me:

that last clamp ring came in this past thursday so for my birthday I just asked for a free day to work on my car. It turned out well!

I got the Z3 rack in, AND I found the sheared wire that was causing my window motor not to work!!! :) I was beginning to think about shelling some money over to someone else to find the short, good thing I just got too pissed and just started taking stuff apart and I found two split wires under the carpet between the pillar and center console.

                I'm on a rollllll!!!

found the additional wire that was burnt that was causing my rear driver's side door to not lock/unlock since I bought the car. I'm feeling lucky tonight.

behind the seatbelt cover, inside the pillar and going under the carpet, the entire wire was all mangled. How's yours running?

Bump for anyone that has a projector headlight support frame they can sell me.

She's been given "chores" but I think they make really make her pay for this support frame if I have to end up buying it new.

no projector headlight support frames for sale here?

oh and silence is taking a while to ship me my ps delete block, do you guys think I would be ok driving it without anything blocking the holes? I don't want to plug it up with a bolt just in case that it COULD damage the internals.

I'm stuffing the banjo bolts with cotton and driving with them in place for the time being. Should be OK for a few weeks, the small holes in the banjo bolts should stop anything large from getting in and the cotton should catch the rest of the dirt. It's a stop-gap for the time being not a final solution.
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.
