Look around for a used one. I bought my first mig about 12 years ago for $200. As a bonus it came with a new spool of wire and a bottle. Still have it and use it regularly.
My next one was a Miller Dynasty which cost a whole bunch more.

Thought I would bump this with a part I am making at work right now:

This one was out of tolerance so it was scrapped. The diameter of the smaller end is 0.0002" too small.

Yikes, that sucks haha. What's the part for?

It's a part for one of these:

The company I work for makes them.

Very good welding and fabrication posted in this thread.

Making a lot of that stuff is not easy and requires a lot of patience.

Frame connectors on my charger (they need to go through the rear floor in order to meet up with the front subframe correctly, not my work though i wish i had the skills)

                  Some personal stuff

A few little bits and pieces from a past combat robot, whole lot of manual machining on this expensive chunk of chromoly:

Another robot piece, I welded some titanium scraps together to make some protection for a delicate(and mildly explosive) lithium polymer battery:

Little bit of my TIG welding from 2 years ago when I was still kinda new at it:

A very small linkage for a miata headlight I made for a friend:

And something that I'm currently learning that leaves really pretty results is CNC machining.

Hopefully I will be good enough to do stuff like this in the future:

Far from welding porn. But first time playing around on a tig at school. Top SS, bottom aluminum. No filler on the SS.

Fun, but demanding. Nerve damage makes this especially tough for me. But what the fuck ever, If I need to do it. I'll get it done.

^I wish SS would cooperate with me like that. Good wheat color. Aluminum is my jam though. I'll have to dig up some of my work from back when I was in school...

That car is going to be insane when completed. Can't wait to see the finished product.

maybe not porn worthy, but here's my first attempt at tigging aluminum. You can see where I dipped the tungsten. I cant believe how much tougher it is than stainless.
