    Proper running M20's appreciation thread.

Besides some minor issues, my M20 is finally running perfect, and just in time for the hot weather. Throttle response is amazing, idle is great. I was sitting at a light with the windows rolled down and sunroof back with no music on, and I thought my engine stalled out because there was zero rumble in the cabin, zero engine noise, and zero exhaust noise (stock exhaust). Had to rev it a little to make sure my engine was still on! Made me smile it was running so quiet haha. A proper valve adjustment and 20W-50 sure makes things quiet!

Gotta love great running engines

mine used to rumble a little with the chip, but after going to stock it's smooth. i'll probably change my motor mounts anyways, but it's nice to not be lumpy.

Mines getting a daily Italian tune-up. Runs great though, now that it is out and being run through the revvs. Lovin' new oil, dizzy cap/rotor, air/fuel filters, and spark plugs. Slight tick, need to adjust the valves again, but otherwise, great.

Still doesn't mean I have to like it...

ticking is indeed normal. it's the M20 clapping at you. It's honestly a nice sound haha.

Mine's a tad loud. It's not the nice, soft tick tick tick tick....

                I don't believe you.

OK, I kid, I kid. Smooth and M20 is something I've not experienced together. Mine idles like a '60s dragster, and it's not from a hot cam...

i think we as e30 owners cherish those few moments when everything runs EXACTLY as it's supposed to, the sparse minutes between fixing the most recent pervasive vacuum leak until the 3/4 temp needle in the canyons...that one banking onramp when all you year is WAHHHHHHHHHH!

maybe I'm just lucky but you cant hear mine tick with the hood closed. Or maybe the sound is just being overpowered by the annoying exhaust leak...

That's just your car telling you you need less restrictive exhaust ;);)

I have a bad head gasket but it's pushing oil into coolant instead of the other way around. So the car runs like a champ with chocolate milkshake coolant and clean oil. Instead of doing the simple thing of replacing the head gasket, I'm putting in a different motor.

Are you sure your not suffering some early stages of hearing loss?

Seriously, M20's are generally mechanical motors versus the later versions of BMW motors. even with new oil, valve adj, etc. even the injectors make noise...this post doesn't make sence unless your speaking of some kinda new hybrid...maybe you were driving in a prius with a bmw badge (wouldnt' be the first time I've heard of that).

All joking aside, I suggest you see a doctor if your hearing is going.
