I actually had a co worker today ask me if my car was cammed. I promptly said yes.. Haha. My intake boot has a large crack near the icv... Idles like complete ass, but revs and drives fine. I <3 my m20

Seriously, M20's are generally mechanical motors versus the later versions of BMW motors. even with new oil, valve adj, etc. even the injectors make noise...this post doesn't make sence unless your speaking of some kinda new hybrid...maybe you were driving in a prius with a bmw badge (wouldnt' be the first time I've heard of that).

All joking aside, I suggest you see a doctor if your hearing is going.
Nope. It's just that quiet. If I open my hood or stand in front of the car I can hear the valve tick tick tick and the injectors.

i bet if you took out the sound deadening from the hood and firewall, you'd hear it :)

I love my fully rebuilt m20b27. Its no s50 like my old car, but its much more suiting to the e30. Dont know of ant other fresh eta's out there really either. Stroker is up next.

i wanna put some good sound deadener in the engine bay so that my car doesnt sound like a diesel at idle.

i adjusted the valves to .25mm cold as per the bentley, and the bitch got louder.

i even switched my injectors to m50 injectors to see if it was just my injectors ticking, but that only helped with part of the problem

Just adjusted my m20b25 to .08 cold. With just a intake and exhaust, I think it's perfect for daily duty. I <3 m20's

did you have to make any modifications to get that plastic shielding to cover the wires?

Well, i think you can do it with a stock harness, i've seen it on other m20s before. But i'm using an m50 odb1 harness, so it's extensively modified anyway.

After I have driven the 320i for a few days and am used to the quiet engine with no power, the 325ic is like a vacation. I love the mechanical ticking of my engine. Hell, I just put in a completely new sound system and I keep turning it off so I can "talk" to my engine!
