Over here, they have new enforcement laws, if you have no insurance, or Roadtax, they can and usually do 99% of the time impound your car.
You then have to pay a minimum of £140 to get it back if it's in a Police compound.

But if it's been taken to the scrapyard, this means your car has been with them for some time, and no has claimed it.
I doubt very much you'll see it again, as it's normally sold to recover costs.
Best thing to do is get over to the scrap yard and strip it of all the goodies, and quick.

Btw, The DVLA are total WAN KERS!!!!
You have to keep chasing them up for a reply to your SORN declaration.
I've had to many times.

Also, recently, they can remove your car now even if it's parked on Private land for not having Tax or Insurance, how fucked up is that!

I have heard of crazy shit in my life but taking your car off your property if it is not insured or registered that is nuts. What if you have a race car can they just take that? Could I rock up at McLaren and take there F1 car?

Basically, the Government over here is doing everything possible to fuck the motorist over here.
Parking is now another one, Traffic wardens now ride up on scooters, ticket the car and fuck off before you can speak to them!!
Petrol prices are now £1.44 per Ltr!!
Tax on cars is now issued by the size of engine!
And MOT's are a joke, it's now an average of £50 too

He called the junkyard and they said they will tow it back and give me a replacement window. Im going to push for more stuff since they caused me so much trouble but right now ill take what I can get.

rav320uk, I understand how everything works. But, my car is insured, it has MOT, and I have a scanned copy of the SORN paperwork that I sent off. So technically what THEY did was illegal. I could get them for stealing since my car wasnt illegal in any way.

This is where the problem is, the posting of the SORN declaration, and the DVLA saying they didn't recieve it, because it has happened to me.
I got a fine soon after, and had to prove that I had posted it on time.
Basically, it's your word against theirs, and they are always RIGHT, apparantly

Property rights in the United Kingdom are a joke, but their enforcement of fines and penalties is anything but. Good luck with fighting this; it sounds like you will have better luck than an ordinary American in the UK if you're stationed there.
