This sounds like a terrible idea but, fuck it. If you got the time and the extra cash go for it. To quote one of my heroes, "Adventure doesn't start until something goes wrong." -yvon chouinard

I shipped my car from San Diego to NJ for 8 Benjamin Franklin's. Similar to you, I planned to drive it cross country. When I received the car I realized that nothing is as good as the SELLER, key word here, claims it to be. I'm glad I shipped it. I wouldn't have made it out of California. The car was in 'great shape' too. I'd sleep on this one, and possibly have that attorney friend of yours guarantee this car will drive the some odd thousand miles home.

shipping is not the problem. No matter what I have to go to NC to get the title because of some crap NC law about title transfers the car transport companies. If anyone is an attorney and is willing to do the title work for a couple hundred bucks, please let me know.

that assumes no fuel stops, no sleep, no shit breaks from the gas station burrito in Wisconsin, etc...

trust me 3 days pushing hard and 4 days if you actually sleep. You are talking to the guy that drove from NW MT to East PA in 56 hours by my self. Its really stupid to push that hard and I dont do it anymore. about 18 hours max for me anymore before I find a motel and get some sleep and a shower. Its not worth it to risk that much to save a few bucks and not stop or even to sleep in the car. I have seen some sketchy shit in rest stops at 3am

My homey Dave drove his Geo Metro from Kentucky to Oregon non-stop (with piss/gas breaks) when he got out of the Army. My friend John rode his crotch rocket non-stop from Cincinnati to Oregon one time.

Agreed. Never push it by yourself but if you have a trustworthy friend that won't try to stay awake longer than they should I would go for it...assuming the car is worth it to you.

I've done SC to LA in 34 hours straight with one other buddy... driving a diesel truck and 25ft trailer. Not a problem as long as you take turns...

yeah I know I am alone 99% of the time. I used to do 30 hour stints no prob after working 12 hour shift.

I dont do that shit anymore. House in MI to house in MT is 31 hours, have made that drive no stop many many times. And from Central NY to MT in the dead of december, with a 3 hour nap in MN in about 44 hours

I hear ya, was more laughing at Google maps claim to the timeframe. I think they must factor in breaks here in Aus now as I can always better the times quoted sitting on the speed limit,
ie Mildura to Bendigo claims 4.5 hours yet I can do it in 4.

Yeah I dont think he should do any crazy long stints in the one go, I just love the adventure of missions like this.

I am going to be doing this in four days. I want to do some tourist stuff. Also I used to live in Chicago would like to hang out for a day. I wish I could drive straight, too old for that now, not in my twenties anymore.

I got a run & drive E30 with a clean title at an auction 40 miles away. We decided to save a few dollars and drive it back ourselves. Ended up wasting a day, gas, tolls and had it towed because it was having issues running. I will never again even try to drive a car off a lot of an salvage auction.
