I am doing something really stupid but should be fun.

I am buying a wrecked, but hopefully drivable 89 325is in North Carolina. I live in Seattle and hope to road trip it back. I got free miles on Alaska Airlines to use but need to plan for the ride home. My route will be along I-80. Since I have no idea when anything has been done I am hoping to do a fix and drive along kind of road trip. Does anyone have a sofa I can crash on? I can offer food and good old e30 stories. Also does someone in the Southeast have a space where I can do the timing belt.

The whole reason for this, a white on black 1989 66K 325is. My dream car for twenty years. Also I need to hire an attorney if I was going to have the car shipped and thats too much money and hassle.

Are you insane? You are planning to buy a car at a salvage auction and then drive it for 1000+ miles? I am speechless at this.

      WORST IDEA EVER!

are you fucking kidding me. You think driving across the country is going to be cheaper than shipping.

you should be able to ship it for about a 1000 bucks. Take it from someone that has driven across the country more times than I care to remember, you are going to be fairly close to shipping cost trying to drive it.

You are going to have at least 4 days out there on the road. thats 3 nights in hotels. Ones just off the high way in the middle of no where are gonna be about 100 a night. fuel is nearly 4 bucks a gallon and you gonna burn about 100 gallons. Food and incidentals could run you a ton depending on what you have to fix along side the highway.

I have done it, you will beat to death, wore out and tired as fuck by the time you get home. Pushing your self to the limit to stay awake ( I used to run in 30 hour stints) and a few hours of crappy sleep in the car at rest stops are really bad and dangerous combination. I dont remember driving across 90% of the state of NY from west to east one night, I still dont know how I made to where I needed to be.

Just ship it, you are asking for lots of trouble trying to drive a wrecked car 3000 miles

Shipping will most definitely be about 800-1200 depending on the company & truck load. You're most definitely taking a big gamble driving this car back and if it gets you stranded, you'll immediately regret the entire trip.

Just play it safe & ship it back. Save your miles for a pain-free trip. :D

Shipping is about $900-1000 right now. I actually did a similar thing and regretted every second of it.
I got a run & drive E30 with a clean title at an auction 40 miles away. We decided to save a few dollars and drive it back ourselves. Ended up wasting a day, gas, tolls and had it towed because it was having issues running. I will never again even try to drive a car off a lot of an salvage auction.

Sounds crazy! Do it. As Slammin said, you should document the trip and post up.

Is the car free? Does it come with hookers?
