    IS lip replica feeler

So, I have a friend that makes plastic molds for various companies and I have been considering having him make a mold for plastic IS lip replicas. They would be identical to the IS lip as I would have the mold made with the actual lip. So my question to the R3V community is.. is this something you'd be interested in? Anybody know what material the actual lip is made of? I'm not sure as to what the cost would be at this point, but my hope would be no more than $75, preferably cheaper. I'll get more information as soon as I talk to him about it. So just getting an idea of what people think about it at this point.

      That'd be awesome.

I don't wanna pay 100something dollars for a lip, just for it get torn off. Me first!

alright, I could have him make a few different molds and to offer cheaper lips to the R3V community. the cost of the actual IS lip is around $110, correct? I'm certain I could make it cheaper than that. I've had him make me plastic skateboard decks and other random things, they're usually pretty reasonably priced. I might also have to try a few different plastics to see what would be best.

IS lips are so cheap it might be diifucult, its 110, but 110 shipped. Worth looking into, but i think a reiger lip and possibly a few others would be much better sellers. Hell, i'd probably take a reiger lip in that price range

The OEM one is so damn durable. I don't see you selling many replicas when Blunt sells the oem ones for $110 shipped.

              Rieger would make more sense.

no, its just an idea at this point. Thank you for the link though! those are still $100 shipped, I'm fairly certain I could make it quite a bit cheaper. I really wouldn't want to have to sell it for more than $75-80 shipped. I probably wouldn't do it if it was going to be any more than that.

Great feedback so far!! thank you. I would have to agree the rieger could be a better way to go. Is there any place that sells them other than abrahams motorsport?

I would say a reiger lip or replicas of other lips would sell better. As others have said the is lip really isn't that much. It would be great if you could make a replica of the reiger lip that isn't so fragile.

the quality is going to be awfully poor if it costs significantly less than the new one, which is already really cheap. The only replica spoilers that were any good were made by a dude in Canada and they weren't cheap at all. He made the best Rieger lip IMO, far stronger than the original. I still have mine.

basically you're going to end up with garbage fiberglass that won't last 1/4 as long as the stock one.

yeah I would want to do some experimenting with different plastics in order to ensure quality, with either lip. My dad has been a plastics engineer for the past 20 years and I have seen a lot of really strong plastics. The key would be getting the right mix of rigidity and flex though so that it doesn't just crack.

If you want to make something.

Figure out how to produce a nice looking/fitting E30 MTech I rear wing for <$200.

You'll sell all of the, you make. I don't think the IS lip is worth messing with.
