    Drove an S2000 yesterday

We were bored and test drove one at a dealership, never driven a car like it. Closest thing would be Miatas. This one was kinda rough, although it was only $10,000, a 2002 model with the 9k rev limit.

I drove it for about 10 minutes and my impressions:

Has a really "connected" feel even just sitting in it.

Whats Torque? Honestly feels lame at lower revs. Made me appreciate the E30 in that sense.

    Small steering input=big results

This car is absolutely amazing above 6k, sound and feel.

On good rubber this car could be driven wicked fast around an autocross course.

I never thought I would own a Honda but I am seriously considering getting into one of these (of course, I would not be getting rid of my E30) Looking into it's SCCA classification, the car is fast in stock form and the minimum mods allowed in stock make the biggest difference on this car.

Anyone else own or drive one of these?

I really like them, but I could never own one. I'm just too tall. Same with the miata (except I hate them) - too damn small!

I was thinking the same thing before getting in and driving it, surprisingly I had plenty of leg room with room to spare above my head (plenty of room for a helmet) You and I are about the same height if I remember, 6-3. The issue is more getting in and out of it, but even that wasn't too bad.

I agree with you 100% about Miatas

I don't think it would be a bad buy, especially if you can get them for 10k now, concidering how silly expensive miatas are going for.

Honestly ARE lame at lower revs. Look at 0-60 times. Impressive. Then look at 5-60 times (rolling start). Unbelievably slow.

I respect these cars. I'd just never want to live with one everyday. Fun weekender though.

yeah, we're about the same height, but I think I might have a bit longer legs than you.

I've never really had a Japanese car that felt comfortable to me. Even our Subaru is a bit cramped up front. I drove a 300zx and it was insanely cramped, with the seat all the way back my knees were touching the steering wheel and shifter at the same time. lol

I drove a modded S2K last summer locally at a smaller racetrack. I too was very impressed with it.... lap for lap, it was about on par with my E30, which I guess is partly to do with me having a fair bit more of lower end grunt to get out of the slower corners, whereas I had to adapt quickly to the fact I had to drop a million gears to get the revs higher so it would pull out of the corner with the S2K. One thing that was deterring was the snap oversteer of the S2K... mostly in the high speed sweepers, which is where I was comfortable to push hard with the E30.

You know, I kind of remember that. What year did you do the stroker? 2005? When you and I co-drove my car I seem to remember you needing the seat all the way back.

anyway, I'm thread jacking my own thread lol

I've only driven and autocrossed ap1 many times as my brother had one for 4 years as his daily driver. Great car but as a second or fun car.... they look best with top down or with a hard top. Rear ends and clutch are a little weak if you are hard on it.... and draws much attention .. panties drop lol

My best friend has a 2001. car is nimble as fuck but the tight wheel base scares the fuck out of me at higher speeds. Isn't much room for error and don't sneeze too hard on the highway. oh and good luck getting the roll bars to save you from skinning your head if you flip it. All that said, it still has one of the most impressive NA 4cyl motors from the factory. First week he bought he destroyed some middle-aged toolbag in a Boxter that still had dealer tags from light to light. All he could do was look straight forward at the next stop light, lol. he was so pissed.

I test drove a few new S2k's back in 2003-2004 and cannot believe they are down to $10k. The S2k is a fantastic performer for the buck.
