yes the v12 is going to be the one worth the most money 10-20 years from now. i would probably rather have a late 840ci because they usually came with the csi body kit. also, i wouldn't feel quite so bad about swapping in a better engine.
as to the manual swap in an 850i, this is something i have spent some time looking into. i would assume it to be quite difficult indeed. apparently the bell housing is a different pattern than the v8. finding an original manual would be very hard to do if not almost impossible.
i have two g420's in my storage shed. i wonder if there is someone out there that makes an adapter kit to bolt this trans up to the back of an m70/2?
