Except with turbo 6 cylinder motors and a stiffer body!

        If I was a dictator the people's entry-level car would be an E30 with an alloy-block M52 B28 motor and 6-Speed gearbox.:hitler:

This just popped up on my facebook page.
The first wave's hottest engine is the 181bhp/280 lb ft 120d lump, which BMW claims gets it to 62mph in 7.2 seconds. Apparently it'll do 65.7mpg, too. Fancy.
That seems pretty cool to me, however if they do bring this style to the states I don't think it will be available with the diesel.

65.7mpg UK = 56.2mpg US. The EURO cycle fuel economy test consistently overstates the EPA test by 20% for identical cars so it would get a 45mpg highway rating in the US. Still good but not out of this world.

Loving everything about it but the front hood. It seems shapeless to me in that area. I love the hatch idea and the side and rear are very nice IMO. I would honestly own the new Golf R over this because of the front nose though. The 2011 Golf R is to die for =)

Those second pictures were not real.
                    They were solid works renderings.

the front of the first 1 series always bugged me a little. But seriously, that is fucking fugly. And I was always a fan of some of the other BMWs that people didn't like - the 5 series looked badass to me, and the newest 3 series coupes/convertables were really damn sexy. That however is an abomination..

I think it looks like an Audi A3 with down-syndrome.

I wouldn't touch it. But then again that isn't saying much because I hate all cars post 92.

The front is probably dictated by EU pedestrian safety regulations. Basically the hood and grill of all cars now sold in the EU have to cause the minimum damage to a pedestrian when/if you hit them. Manufacturers have to design around these strict parameters. I would have liked to see the front lights have less height.
As for the rear, looks like a GTI. A quick change of the Iight clusters would sort that and make it look like a bimmer again.

Overall I like the general shape. And these will sell like hot cakes in Europe.
