    F%$# My Luck!

    hello everybody,

after not having fully recovered from my little sister backing up into me and breaking my headlights, driver's side fender, grill and deciding to do a steering rack swap in all this, a new person came and messed it up some more.

my girlfriend. I admit it was probably my fault for letting her even hold the key, much less asking her to turn the key for me while I tried to jiggle a lock open. She didn't insert the key all the way and snapped it off inside the trunk's lock.

I got it out but, as I always knew, the copy never really worked that great all it'll do at the moment is lock and unlock the doors, it wont open the trunk or start the ignition. So what are my options here? I have no idea, thanks for your time and any suggestions R3v.

I think a lock smith should be able to make you a key from the ignition drum. It will be very expensive. Or you can call BMW and give them your VIN and see if they still have a replacement key or something or some kind of way to make it easier for the lock smith to make one for you. Thats all I can think of.

Just go to the BMW dealer with your ID and registration.
Might cost between $50-100, it depends on locations.

i have a copy, but like I said, it doesn't work that well.

It seems like all the tumblers got used to the worn down key and when I try to use the new and freshly cut copy it will not turn on the car or open the trunk. So I'm assuming that if a lock smith tries and makes me a copy it'll just be the same story, don't you think?

Yeah I still have a broken key stuck in my passenger door lock. Never let stupid people touch the keys to an e30.

so, what parts exactly do I need to purchase?

just new keys with tumblers? or is it going to be more expensive than that?

Just go to the dealer with your ID and registration. A new key cost me like $30. They had it overnight too. Not that hard to do. No locksmith shit, just ID, and registration.

Hint!! The address on your ID and registration needs to match Hint!!!

So, lets recap, you will need:
                      -Registration
                      -I.D. (Drivers lisense).
                      Go to dealer
                      Ask for key
                      ???
                      Profit.

Also, it will be a quality, steel key! Not some brass piece of shit from ACE/Lowes. It will be an ORIGINAL CUT!!!! Perfect fitment. No more jiggling the key around and shit.

                      Seriously. OEM FTW 24/7-365.

Just order a brand new key from the Dealer. All you need is your registration and VIN and they will order you a brand new, already cut key directly from Germany. You don't need blanks or a code for a locksmith. you'll be spending the same if not more for a locksmith. Just go to the dealership!

so you guys are saying even though my tumblers are used to the old worn down key, a new key right from BMW will work perfect?

I don't want to get my hopes up considering my luck.

You will at least start with a GOOD NEW OEM KEY. You can then have the door/trunk tumbler(s) rekeyed to the master NEW key if needed.
