How can a tumbler get "used" to a worn key?

the tumblers don't wear as bad as the keys do. get a new key from the stealer, see where you stand. if the locks are really bad, they are about $90 each already setup to match your VIN/key from the dealer or like $50 for a kit that you rebuild them yourself.

I had the same thing happen, i was looking at the non working spare and it seemed like the ace key cutter chucked it wrong in the machine. Made it work by removing material from the two flat areas that stop the key in the lock. I wont claim this will work in your situation, just be careful.

Or everyone could stop being cheap son of bitches and get an OEM key instead of waiting for the "temporary" key to break.

I went to the dealer and bought two oem Steel keys for $50 bucks a pop. Works perfectly and can take much more of a beating. Made from the vin and registration. My copy key had different cuts from my OEM one as well hahaha

This. Happened to me last summer, go to the dealership with the above, and they'll have one cut. Assuming the locks have never been changed.

that's my other worry, but if the key I was given by the previous owner is anything to go by it looks like they've never been changed. crossing my fingers!

the problem with taking the VIN with you, is that you don't know the history of the car and you don't know if the ignition cylinder and locks has been replaced throughout the years.

That's what happened to me. Wasted $70 for the key and waited for it to arrive and then it doesn't work because it doesn't match the ignition tumbler.

I have a brand new drivers door tumbler, the used ign. lock, and two keys, from my old e30, which got junked, and I have no idea what to do with it all
