I need a new gear ratio

I have the 3.73 LSD and I'm not a fan of it at all.

On the freeway Im doing 70mph at 3k and 80-85 at almost 4k. This seems ridiculous for cruising and I'm sure wasting gas at the same time.

Anybody have the same problem? What's everyone else running?

That deffinitly looks better. I just feel like it can't be safe to be pushing 3.5-4k for hours of cruising, is it? Seems like it would be stressful on the car. In my 7 series I'm doing 90 at like 2k and it's awesome.

it wont hurt it. i do with the gears were a lil longer in my vert. The 2.93 was nice in the eta. 2nd gear at 4800rpms doing 60mph :D

It can't be that bad for it, that's the gearing i cars came with. ;)

Switch to a 3.25 or 3.46 if you like. Hell, a friend has a 2.93 with his M20. Seemed a little too long in my opinion.

              That's what she said...

But yeah, I have a 3.25 in my eta and I'm at 3k cruising at 80mph. It's a lot more fun around town too :)

I'd like to put a 2.93 along with my b25. I think it'd be better for teh miles per 20 bucks.

dude same fucking here, a 4:10 diff is cool when you needa pass someone on the freeway to get ahead in 5th gear, but the fun ends there.
                  driving 75 mph at 3.4k is not the business for my wallet(gas money) -____-;;
how much does a new diff usually go for, i feel like it would be cost effective.

2.93's are pretty cheap. I'd prolly look for a 3.25 out of an e28. keep a 3.73 or 4.10 in the garage for track days.

                      are you sure it's 4k at 80mph? even with a 4.10 mine isn't that high. Something isn't right, or it's not really a 3.73.

as far as gas money, I don't get it. I still get 22-26 on the highway with a 4.10? remember these cars were made to cruise on the autobahn, basically in the 3k rpm range you're at the engine's most efficient operating point.

mehh 2.93 seems a bit too long for my taste, either a 3.25 or 3.46 would be ideal.
ima look for one now and waste my money, thanks for convincing me lol

see my post above. Guys pushing these cars on the autobahn back in the day were essentially at redline the entire time. 3000rpm isn't stressing the engine in the least bit.

^I was going to say that. The engines don't really come alive until 3750 or so rpm, how can running 3-3500k stress the engine? For me it does feel fairly high strung with a 3.91, but after a while it became normal to me.

if you are running a 3.73 these numbers seem off.
