Just visited a shop to get a quote for my e30.
Complete respray, rust repair, and a few dent removal = $750. Not too bad id say

Depends, are you doing it yourself or having someone do it? Are you doing the prep work? Full respray or just exterior?

        Maaco?

I was quoted $4,200 for just paint. I do the body work and bring it in ready for primer/paint/wet sand/polish.

            Which shop is this?
A solid paint job would cost around 2 Gs.
Maaco and Earl schieb are around $750 1-2 day. Crappy work though. Use them if you are selling the car. LOL..

wow thats cheap, too cheap. like stated before it should be at least 2-3g's for someone to do it for you.

It highly depend on color though, for instance red is far more expensive then white or black. Also depends if its a complex color like a metallic. If its a simple white, black, gray, etc. then you can do a good single stage paint which is far cheaper and less work so less labor costs, with metallic you have to do base clear, then expect to pay over $600 for paint and clear alone.

$750 sounds too good, even if it's your friend do know the owner. Most recent quote for me was min $4k and cheapest was $3000+ and my cousin was working there.

I just had my car's exterior resprayed but I had it done with absolutely everything off. No trim of any sort, no windows or windshields. Just materials/paint cost me $800 and this was done in a professional paint booth by a professional painter. He owed me a favor so he did it probono. Still though, a good 2 stage paint job won't be under $2k. I did all the bodywork/sanding/wetsanding myself as well.

Don't be fooled at cheap prices becuase in the end, you get exactly what you pay for.

clear is 400 for a gallon. lol. i had a guy in the valley quote me 1000 for rust fix and body work. but the paint was somehow a 1 stage silvermetallic... the other shops i went said anywhere from 2500 to 5000. im still looking around but im leaning towards paying more for better work and paint.

when I resprayed mine I had about 1400 in materials alone about 2/3's of that was color and clear. And I did all my own body work, and prime and prep. A good friend of mine is a painter so he sprayed the color and clear on (barn paint job) and it came out fairly good and all told I had about 1800 in it. Real Petro chemical based PPG
