      M42 gets 35-ish if I don't drive like I'm 19. 26 if I do.

          Have a new one.

          M52 w/ S52 cams. 6sp.

I have the big BW 3.5" intake boot and large cone filter. Intake is LOUD. Real loud. When the cams hit it goes up a notch.

Because unlike Dinan, I don't drive slow on the freeway. I'm usually in the 3,700rpm range to and from work with an S50 to ZF320 and S2.93 gears out back.
75mph on the freeway is 10 over around here. I could go 80 and get there 87 seconds earlier I guess?

I posted on facebook I got 33mpg and multiple BMW friends told me it was impossible... it isn't. Simply drive X amount of miles and see how much fuel you used. Lowest was 32.8 and highest 33.5. Was easy to keep the speeds averaged out.

Awesome. I have just a straight s50 but the intake up top should sound almost identical I'd think. I don't want the power gains or anything of the sort... I just want the sound! Glad to hear it can be achieved. :)

My ix will avg. about 27 if there is some interstate mixed in, I have noticed that driving slower really doesn't change the amount of mpg's I get. Whether it is flooring it a lot or moving more sedately. It only changes a little bit.

Yeah, me too. I get 23-24 mpg on the highway with a ZF and a 3.46. I usually drive around 75, so I guess if I went exactly the speed limit I could get a couple mpg better.

                  I get 26mpg on the highway cruising at 100 with an m60 + 6 speed + 2.93 gears.

                    So yea....you are wrong.

Eta I'm assuming? If its a regular i/s motor then your doing something wrong.

My E30 best 27.5mpg and that was with taking it up to 120+ a few times. This was with a M52B28, zf320 and a 3.25. I will be switching to a 2.93 soon and should be able to get 30+.

I was also able to get 34mpg in my old E46 328i gas light came on right at 500 miles.

Nope, i motor with 260k on it, bad compression, and ~300 miles/qt of oil.

Yep, BMW's get good mpg. My E46 325 got 29-32 all the time. E36 TI (No OD gear, 5th is 1:1) gets 31 no matter what you do. E30 325is with 4.10 gets 26-28. *shrug*

My Jeep cherokee gets about -5mpg.

I routinely got 29mpg in the biggest POS 318is you can imagine. The clutch was so bad you couldn't use more than about 1/2 throttle. You couldn't let the gas tank go below 1/2 because all the crap was clogging the pump screen and filter. Constant CEL's. Noisiest chain ever. collapsed lifters. 260,000 miles. No maintenance other than what was absolutely neccesary to keep it on the road. The battery was even shot, I drove it around with a portable jumpstarter as a battery.. lol

In better condition I can't see why 30+ wouldn't be achievable..

my stock ix with an auto and 4.10s did an easy 26-27 on the freeway.

yeah, I still kinda want a bone stock, clean 318is as a daily driver..

I got 32mpg between Denver and Grand Junction (over some big ass mountains) in my 533i once -- with 4 people in the car, and I've seen 29-30mpg on long highway trips in my 535is. Maybe its our thin air. I took our Grand Prix GT 3.8 from Denver to Moab once and got 33mpg.

Man, you guys are getting ridiculously high numbers. I'm running s52/zf320 + 2.93lsd and get only 23-25 city and hwy. I calculate mileage traveled / gallons filled. Empty light to empty light.
