I'd want to evaluate the chassis using computer modeling and see where flex can be reduced, and more where energy absorbing structures in the front and rear can be redesigned to make the car slightly more safe, but not add much weight. I'd leave the trailing arm rear suspension design.

Well, they sell a crack resistant dash.

You can get a new one for around $700, and it'll last probably another 15-20 years without cracking.
