What does the OP want. maybe 10-12 psi m42 which would give 240-260 hp spooling at 2500 somthing?
orrr turbo m20 which gives maybe 40 more hp and is spooling at 3k or so? provided the builds are somewhat proportional and similar...
OP do what you think will be the most fun. Just dont not do anything and be gay. my 2 cents

wow its a pretty split opinion here from what im reading.... maybe this will help narrow down what would be a better build for me...
what motor can i get the most useable fun out of for the cost? i seem to be getting mixed opinions in this regard as to which motor itself is a better platform for achieving my power desires reliably.
buttchug you obviously know a thing or two about turboing an m42 what was your experience with the build? i believe you mentioned it costs more? why is that?
anyone else with a turbo m20 (2.5 or 2.7) what are your experiences/costs with your build? and what were the results you were after? what results did you achieve?
It seems that I dont have a ridiculous idea of a power goal, im just trying to iron out which is the best way to get there. if there are any more specific bits of information im leaving out that may help please let me know. i really do appreciate all of the thoughts and opinions!

I can't see an M42 build costing less than an M20. No way. you can do 300whp on a bone stock M20B25. To do 300whp on an M42 costs significantly more, and requires more boost, not to mention the turbo aftermarket for M42s is far smaller.
is it a better or engine or not? I don't know. But there's no way that an M42 will cost less for a given HP level.
