Interesting. The pan I took off my car did not have a BMW stamp into it. I assume this means it is aftermarket. Thus my assumption on these eBay pans. Am I way off base here?

alot of remanufactured parts have the bmw stamps ground off. Not sure why but im pretty sure its oe. If someone wanted to make a m42 pan aftermarket with built in baffles id buy it.

fwiw you need a new pan and a skidplate

            Ebay replica or not.
I blame you, not the pan.

I sell 2 aftermarket M42 pans. One is made by Meyle and one is made by
MEISTERSATZ and they are every bit as good as an OE pan. No oil pan is going to take a hit like that

The reason they shatter is that they are cast aluminum, unlike the sheet metal ones that other e30's have. Those can take small hits and come off with a dent rather than blowing the entire bottom off. I've actually been sorta impressed with the hits that mine took before I got used to driving a low car.

Yes, DJButtlick is wrong about all pans being OEM.

But you can't blame the pan, I've seen those aftermarket M42 pans and they are not bad at all.

Most E30's have cast aluminum pans. I've only seen some of the early etas with stamped steel pans.
