My engine is sucking coolant at a rate of about a cup every 100 miles. No leaking hoses or stains on the driveway, a little smoke on the start up in the morning, I'm pretty sure it's a slight head gasket leak. I got a round trip of 1200 miles coming up next week. Would it be too risky to drive or should it be ok so long as I keep the coolant topped off? It's a M50 NV
Would you drive 1200 miles with a HG leak?

I wouldn't do it. Would you run a 26miles on blood thinners after a recent vascular procedure?
But then again, everything I say, you do or think the opposite, so take my opinion wondering if I'm using reverse psychology.Last edited by Farbin Kaiber; 08-07-2011, 04:55 PM. -
i drove my m20 for 4 months with a leaking head gasket. I always carried a gallon of coolant with me. I wouldn't recommend it but i can be done just don't over heat it and brings lots of water hahaComment

Can you afford a tow from 600 miles away? If yes, do it. If not, think of the worst thing that can happen on the trip and see if you can deal with it.Comment

shake one of those fortune telling 8 balls and see what it says. is coolant mixing with the oil. if so that's a definite no go.Comment

I've driven to the picnic and portland twice with a leaky hg. Just squirts coolant on the exhaust making for a nice smoke screen spy hunter style. I don't plan on keeping the motor so it doesn't bother me, plus I invested in AAA+ and made sure I knew of people along the route who wouldn't mind having a car towed to their house.Comment

Rent a flatbed, put the e30 on that flatbed and then drive 1200 miles.
