If you had access to a Euro e30 parts car...

    Hi,
As the title asks, if you had access to an '84 320i, what parts would you take?

I already know the obvious ones (bumpers, grills), but are there any other special parts you would take?

    thanks.

anything that is in good condition. take the whole bumper windows if they don't have chips or cracks, cause you'll never know when you need one....also the dash and center console, steering wheel, seats, tool kit, lights...only if they are in a ok condition

How can I tell if it has the dog-leg tranny? and there is no shift knob, so don't just tell me to look at that.

don't even waste your time looking at the trans. it is only the early 323i that came with the close ratio, and of them, I have never seen one-- and I have seen tons of old E30s.
once again, dont waste your time with the small valved head, it is garbage. If it is a euro germany car, the diff will probably be a 3,73 no posi. the 320 never got any good diffs here in germany. there really isnt much anygood on the 320i other than the chrome bumpers, if they arent all rusted out and bent.

why do you all want the dog-leg trans? performance wise, it really sux, my M3 has it and it is a terrible shift from 1 to 2.
but for the euro-coolness, i can understand.
the best thing to do is just look all over the car and see what you see is different. motor mounts are different, but that fall along the lines of nothing performance or anything that people will see.

They want the dogleg because its euro. End of story.

I have one sitting at the shop, from an e21 323i. Its a good upgrade for real track cars, especially with the proper diff.

What diff are you running in the M3? That might contribute to the poor 1-2 shift mannerisms. I've driven a CR m3 car, and it was wonderful.

I am running a 3,46 diff. It has nothing to do with the diff, or the z3 shifter. what I was meaning by that is the dogleg pattern of it, It is not an easy yank straight down, like a regular trans. you have to be a little more careful, and cant just rip it down to shift. I would never trade out my dogleg, I am just saying that on the street, it is much easier to drive with a OD 5 speed.

I'm sure there's a manufacturer's stamp with brand/model on the casing.....not exactly sure what that may be. Someone here who is well versed in Euro E30 stuff probably knows.

you arent going to get any gains, the higher compression is ok, but then you are choking out your motor with the small valves, and even smaller ports into the head.

the shifer mounting area of the trans, looks completely different. it doesnt have the dreaded bitch clip, but it has 2 long bolts. the overall shape is quite a bit different to.
