I've driven a few E34s and have owned an E30 as a daily car an E36 as weekend car, although the E36 used to be the daily car.
Whatever you choose, make sure its got a M50 or M52 motor in it unless your route is mostly highway driving than M30 is an awesome thing as well.
Around town, M50/M52 mileage is SHIT LOADS better than an M30. The M30 guzzles fuel like a tank around town but is ok on the highway.
Its now getting difficult to find an E36 in good condition so you'll probably end up with a later 328i and you'll love it. Keep it reasonably stock and just enjoy the smooth power delivery :)
E34 525i M50 5-speed is also a really good thing though........ either way good luck!Leo.

Late E34 Touring is a comfy and good looking car.
Fuck an E36 non-M, ya dig.

I have a 530it that I DD, Id prefer a m54 or 52 or even m50 other than this engine. Its more expensive to maintain and gets worse fuel mileage. Its fairly peppy though. Even the m50 5 speeds dont get fantastic fuel economy. But I do see a 4.4 6 speed in it in the future.. ;) Oh and most of them need all new power steering lines and front end parts. As do any 20-10 year old bmw..
