set it up properly and use your head and 400 is not outlandish
It would undoubtedly be a lot of fun if set up right.

Not sure how likely you are to get your drive line, chassis, brakes and suspension to handle that power reliably for 10k though.

Maybe a turbo M20B25, off-shelf coilover conversion and a 3.73 8 bolt LSD. I'm thinking that adequate braking is where you would go over budget.

I think the most important part is the "use your head" part.
I know I had several close calls in my first NA s52 car acting like an idiot.
I like to think Ive gotten smarter but im not sure. Race pads and stock brakes are remarkably good albeit noisy and dirty
Im at about 10k on my turbo M52 with coil overs and rebuilt suspension.
Of course its not running correctly yet. For track use you may need more brake but for my needs I think they will be ok

        My plan:

Ground Control Coilovers (2" out of the struts, 600/750 rates)
        3 sets of wheels
        Fender roll/pull
        Fix a few scratches
        Houndstooth cloth interior reupholstery
        Custom Intake/Exhaust for teh lulz
        more small interior things

I am about to have a good budget once my 135i sells, so this will all be done in the next year. I looked into an S52 swap, but seeing as it will be at least $10k (probably) I decided I will just do bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, possibly header but probably not) and drive my dad's 2012 Nissan GTR when I wanna go fast.

Oh! forgot the E30 Motorwerks severe duty skid plate. I'll need it when I'm done. Yes I am one of those people.

After youre done fixing all the broken stuff you need to so its safe to drive, you'll have about 3k left for wheels and tires.

Thats like 20k if you include all the new hardware and misc dealer items you have to buy to get all that to work. Unless you akin to reusing old bushings and rusty parts/hardware.

I built my current DD on a free shell I got and still spent almost 10G on it. Rollcage, sparco seats, plastics (88), digital dash, fiberglass dashboard, painless wiring kit, lots of spray paint (lol), mishimoto rad, rear wing, CF sunroof delete, massive bbk, new hardlines, ss braided lines, new wheels and tires, solid rear subframe bushings, adjustable rear camber and toe plates welded on.....all sorts of stuff will eat up 10grand really fast. It did on my project and I didn't list all of it. The running gear and suspension came off my wrecked vert, m52 obd1, custom exhaust, H&R race + billy sports.

Just finished it a couple months ago and have 4k miles on it already from driving to WA, around a lot, and back to CA.
