I have seen this weirdness in many cars I have run. Somehow they didn't report the milage when reregistering the car. My car which I know has the miles it has while not as severe as this has gaps in it's report.This is from Carfax:

Based on this carfax the car never had less than 22k & NADA says 31k!obviously it started at 0 also when I took it over in 2004 I reported the milage as 49xxx (correctly)

I have no clue where they get 52k in 03 it has 53xxx now.

This is the downside to CarFax. One error can look like a nightmare.

My car has an aberrational mileage reporting from before I got it. There is a very lengthy list in a reasonable sequence showing the car in the 70k through 80k range. Two months after it has a report at 84k, there is a "report " of it at 186k. then there is a gap of about a year and it is at 94k.

Carfax thus lists my car as a ROLLBACK. Obviously, the 186 should have been 86. But, since it happened before I owned it, they will do nothing. In fact when I talked to them, one guy tried to suggest that I was trying to prepetrate a fraud on someone!!!!

Good thing it is a 18 year old shit box and not a newer car whose value is truly hampered, or I'd be severely pissed.

Exactly! The info comes from the DMV which is the equivalent of Federal welfare cloaked in a "job" they hire people that could not get a job delivering newspapers (mostly) I have met a few capable people at the DMV, P.O. courts, etc but the capable are the exception not the rule.

Hell look at the Governator, he could not get a management position at any major company yet he is the Governor of Califonia.
