Drifting the E30?

My previous car was a 96 240SX, and whenever I'd autocross that thing, it would love to go sideways. I'm gearing up to buy an E30 and I was wondering, does anybody drift these things? It seems like there's a lot of amateur drifitng events popping up all over the place, just wanted to see if anyone's tested their luck sideways-

you can drift anything, if your good. go for it, e30's are nicer thatn 240's... except the s15 IMO.


i've been to two drift events down here, didnt do that great. seeiang as it was one of the first times on a track. A better steerring wheel lock to lock ratio would DRAMATICLY improve your skills of control though.

It was a legitimate question; I wasn't asking if people take E30 M3's and fully prep them for drifting competitions...I was wondering if anyone had non-chalantly tried their hand at an amateur practice session. I'm not some ignorant ricer, so either answer the question constructively, or don't waste anyone's time...

Well if you came form a 240, learn to drive the e30 first. I left my freind take my car out for a lap, and he completely lost it on the first turn, not even drifiting, simplywasnt use to the long steering ratio compared the the short 240.

drifting is huuuge in OZ, and id love to see an e30 (or any other BMW out there mixing it up). its all in the setup man, any car can be built to drift.

I have had a couple of 240's myself, one s14 and about 6 s13's and I have found the e30 as a good platform to start drifting with. Of course there isn't much aftermarket support for drift parts for the e30 so one can't find many parts that makes drifting so much easier. But if you take a lightly modded 240 and a lightly modded e30, I think the e30 is much better to learn how to drift with. The powerban of the in-line 6's are much more linear than any ka. So go out and slap a 4.10 lsd in your e30 and get sideways, but keep it off the streets.

why the hell not? I would do it for fun. I love burnign some doughnuts. get a set of used 195s on steel wheel and look retro doing it!

I can get my M3 sideways easily, its all about how you set your suspension up and tire choice. I like to push my car out to the limits, but rather than drifting a turn I like to keep the car stright and see how fast I can carry through the turn.
E30's can drift very well, as can E28's. I would say the E28 is easier to drift because it has a longer wheel base and makes for a more controlable slide. Welcome to the E30 Comunity!

Drifting is fun as hell, i would suggest you getting a 325is since they already come handeling decent and with a nice 3.73? lsd stock.
