what a difference a diff makes

so yesterday AdamF88is installed my new (new to me) diff in my eta. i went from a 2.93 open to a 3.25 LSD. The difference was night and day. I've got to relearn my gears and such because it's a bit faster. I love it.

Hell yeah. Imagine A 3.73 l/s on an eta. Thats what mine has. WHat model did your diff come from exactly?

the 3.25ls came from a 535is. it's been hugely discussed that although you rev faster with a 3.73ls, you actually lose speed. somebody on the boards lined up with a chipped eta with a chipped eta with 3.73 and the chipped eta with stock diff won. 3.25 is supposedly the best gearing for the eta...

That can be driving ability too man. My first mod was a 3.73 lsd when i had my eta motor. It would hold to 50 with e36 325i's. When I say hold I mean 1-2 car lengths.

A 4.45 would be sick in a stock eta :P

Top speed without a chip would be 83mph. A chip would allow 96. You'd get there awfully fast tho.

Glad you like it, Karlo. I've got my eyes peeled for anything else fun you may want.

This is an interesting argument. The theory is that the stock car will still be in first gear when you're already well into second; and your overall gear ratio of 2nd+3.73diff is slower than his overall of 1st+2.93diff. I've never seen anybody do the math to see where to actually draw the line to optimize it all though.

If you are going to mod the eta, then the 3.25 should be the diff of choice. The 3.7 is simply too steep of a gear for the eta's extremely short powerband.

                              Perhaps a 3.46...
