Self serve ones are better. Spend a 1.75 and you have a super hot water rinse cycle. Takes all the packed snow in the wheels out, and leaves you 2 minutes to spare to rinse out the grill from the snow now packed in there from plowing through the 3 foot snowpile to get to the car wash.

(I have no idea how I haven't cracked/broken my grille, or my ellipsoids....)
Lol, then the doors freeze and you are stuck inside! I love driving in the winter, can't wait.

I didn't say to do the whole car :p
      That's just silly.

Keep all water away from window areas too. The e30 windows take FOREVER to thaw out enough to crack them open to have a smoke.
(I have no idea how I haven't broken my window from bashing it with my fist so many times to have a smoke)

Wow... I really am not nice to my car.

Having E30 not as a DD, I still decided to run it this winter few days per week. Did that before and here's my checklist:

          1. Winter tires (wider in the rear for better start, more narrow in the front for better braking)
          2. Mudflaps (i took them off last summer for i don't remember what reason)
          3. Shovel (folding one) in the trunk
          4. Extra windshield washing fluid
          5. Two straps of "spiked" rubber (30x60cm) to stuff under the wheels if getting out of snow is too much
          6. Rubber (some generic cut-to-fit) floormats.
          7. Ice scraping things and brooms - a few (I usually lose or break them)
          8. Light-reflexing orange jacket (the type road construction workers use) - then again I always have that...
          9. Finally - car cover. The "breathing material" type.

          EDIT:
          10. WHEEL CHAINS (when going out of town) - you never know what road conditions you run to...

last winter I ran bald tires from 04, no type of mat, no heat, windows worked but stopped working right before summer started (perfect timing right?) and thats about it. I made it through winter without crashing until the one day when there wasnt any snow on the ground.

              4. May be going back to stock i "slim" lip but probably not

                Not bad. I usually carry:

                Shovel
                Tow Strap
                Jumper Cables
                Coolant
                Washer fluid
                Spare coat, hat, gloves
Fire making stuff (up in the mountains quite often)
                Hatchet
                Couple scrapers

                    1. drive e30 into garage, like so:

                    2. drive wrx with wintersports out of garage, like so:

                    3. profit by picking up stranded people who can't drive/have terrible tires/made poor automotive decisions for the snow

the e30 will soon have snow tires on it, though, and does have LSD....so maybe it will come out for some snow action as well if we get enough to have some fun!

studded winter 195/70/14s on basketweaves with H&R Race and an LSD... looks like a monster truck.

seriously though, I POR-15 any exposed paint/metal on the bottom of the car(where undercoating has come off from using my jack, or scraping) then rockerguard over once it is dried. Oil change to 10w-40, and this year I'm going to take my carpet out so I don't get all sorts of water trappped under it.

I went last year with all seasons and it honestly wasn't bad.

This will be the first year I have an iX for winter.

My plans are to fix the squeaking steering wheel and install a radio...

I might put the snow tires back on if I'm not too lazy.
