^build it like a normal e30, once you're done building, depending on your power. take to a tranny shop. tell him "I want it to handle the 250whp that it is making. build it accordingly."

Fast is relative. No e30 is going to be fast. Quick, maybe, but not fast.
Fast to me is top speed. (high $$$$ exoctics)
Quick is acceleration. (0-60, 30-70, highway passing speeds)
You can make anything quick. It just depends on how much $$$ you want to spend. So as it was stated somewhere else in this thread, build your car to how you want it.
Ok, so correct me if I'm wrong, the only real advantage in having a 5sp. is the weight difference? I think the manual is lighter than the automatic? Is that right, or did I miss understand or miss read something?'02 Outback wagon

Why not? I have bad knees from football, track, and basketball over the years. So a fast/quick auto E30 would be great. Everyone is critical about automatics but no one wants to take the challenge of putting a fast or quick one together. Funny how people are afraid of stepping out of their comfort zone. There are thousands of swapped, dropped, coiled, cam'ed, turbo'ed, supercharged, nitrous, dyno'ed, borla'ed, wide bodied, S52, M50, Corvette powered 5 speed E30's out there. I still have seen no pics or proof of an automatic E30 that is modded to be just as fast/quick as a 5 speed car. Just a simple step on the gas and zoom. Lot of critics......IJS....................G.

Manuals were never meant to be driven hard. They were originally design to make driving easier. Yes, some drag racers do use them, but that is comparing apples to oranges here.
I think what the OP meant by "fast E30" is a high HP E30. That takes the whole perception of what is fast/ fast in what way out of the picture.

Does fast/quick have to be about racing? I mean I'm not about to race my vert. However, I would like a little more torque. There are quite a few automatic cars of other makes that are 300hp. I was just guessing that maybe someone out there had done the same with an E30. I did not expect this many technical opinions of speed vs shifting vs torque. Seems like it would be a challenge to make it happen. It's all good and very interesting reading.
Ohh and lets not forget brakes. What braking system could be designed to stop this car?

I do wish mine was a manual but its fast enough for being N/A(wont be N/A for long). All you need is a 4.27torsen differential, shift kit and some weight reduction and the car will easily run 6 seconds 0-60 runs. The E30 is my fun weekend car and I do a nice smokey donut with it every 2 weeks and tranny does not ever fuss. I've had the car for 5 years and it has not let me down. I got a 300hp-346ft.lb of torque wrx as my DD now but the E30 is a different creature.
