what kind of stud? Wheel stud head stud intake/exhaust stud?
Unless the stud has a keyway for an allen or torx socket, the best way to remove a stud is to double nut it. Two nuts on the stud, turn the bottom one to the left and the bottom one to the right so they pretty much lock each other in place and turn the bottom nut to the left to loosen the entire stud.-Alex

Buy that. Seriously. It's the greatest thing ever invented for removing studs. I use it 2-3 times a week pulling broken exhaust studs on rb's and vg30's. I've used it to pull studs that i couldn't get out via vice-grips. At the same time, every so often it won't catch a stud...but those are few and far between.1985 325e
