what kind of stud? Wheel stud head stud intake/exhaust stud?
Unless the stud has a keyway for an allen or torx socket, the best way to remove a stud is to double nut it. Two nuts on the stud, turn the bottom one to the left and the bottom one to the right so they pretty much lock each other in place and turn the bottom nut to the left to loosen the entire stud.-Alex -
double nut is about the only thing you'll find. I have one of those HF $6 stud removers. sorta worthless - it works if the stud isn't rusted in place. it also destroys the threads on the stud.Comment

Buy that. Seriously. It's the greatest thing ever invented for removing studs. I use it 2-3 times a week pulling broken exhaust studs on rb's and vg30's. I've used it to pull studs that i couldn't get out via vice-grips. At the same time, every so often it won't catch a stud...but those are few and far between.1985 325e

I always found that waving my hands in the air and shouting got the stud out of the pasture.~ Puch Cafe. ~ Do business? feedback ~ Check out my leather company ~

Had to weld the nuts onto the studs and hit them with an impact wrench..Comment

That used to be my go-to method, but i've broken enough of them off even further down doing it that way that i finally gave in and bought some removal tools. Nothing like breaking off 2 inches of stud about a half inch deep in the head to make you consider other options next time.1985 325e
