    anyways

consider the vehicle height. I have a pos early 90s volvo. I drive up to 500 miles at a time all freeway.

Stock ride height I was seeing 25ish mpg. I lowered the car bout 3 inches all around. and saw a significant increase in mileage. almost 5 miles a gallon more.

The new jeep grand cherokee has adjustable ride height for improved economy.

I've always wanted to see an E30 with a roof wing/deflector setup.

^ And a proper one at that. I would buy one if it was similar to the above.

              Really?

And op, if you're looking for mpg, I have a link that may be able to help you. Theres a fellow on my local state forum, who owns 2 Tercels. One he builds for track events, the other as a daily to get great mpg. Both have completely different little mods. Let me know if you'd like me to dig it up!

Thanks for starting the thread. I started a weight reduction thread for better mpg on another forum and got 3 pages of flame.

I had not thought about aero mods, but worth the extra effort to get what you can out of your E30. When I get to that point on my car repair I think I will start with http://www.raceskids.com/joomla/inde...emart&Itemid=3 Then just enlarge the area covering under the front of the car.

Just throwing something out there, would getting rid of the stock clutch fan and rigging up an electric one big enough to move the volume of air needed reduce drag on the engine enough to make any difference?

Reducing any type of drag on the motor is good. But you wont get a lot more power from just removing the fan clutch. Best bet would be to use underdrive pulleys too, but even then the butt dyno may not notice a difference.

I didn't notice much when switching to an electric fan but technically every little bit helps

                            speaking of fans......

                            Brabham BT46
used a huge fan to literally pump the air out from under the car.
                            also the lotus 88
these cars had sideskirts that were moveable, i believe they literally dragged on the ground.
it made the seal and sucked air out, its awesome. these things got banned because they were so dangerously good at handling they could make turns drivers couldnt handle. or they would make a turn they couldnt handle without the added grip, hit a bump, lose the suction with the ground and crash and burn...which i dont think happened but it makes me think it could. also the lotus 80 did something called porpoising. because they relied too heavily on underbody effects.

lower your engine bay's relative pressure. shimming the hood and removing the weather stripping do help to some extent, as do undertrays at least to the front wheels.

also, vortex generators on the roof... the autospeed articles are good. with that said, you get into a lot of diminishing returns. Also, don't mistake downforce for drag, or vice versa.

If you're that concerned about MPGs go visit a hypermiling forum(and ride on the white line on the way there...heh)
