First, I was referencing mostly the newer cars being produced by BMW (F01, F10, F30. Granted the ones the OP is concerning are E90s, but I was just commenting on the overall direction BMW is going with their cars.

My father just was trained on the new F01 7 series at the BMW HQ of North America here in NJ.

The automatic transmission in them IS better by all standards, than in any BMW transmission ever made.

Obviously there is a "connection", we call it, to driving manual transmissions that will never be topped by automatics.

OP also said this in his post.

He doesn't race. He doesn't need manual to be .01s faster than his opponent. Also, his wife drives it, and if we've learned anything by MINI's research and marketing, less women know how to properly drive manual transmissions.

My wifes e90 cant downshift nearly as fast as I can.. Try dropping two gears at once, for hard acceleration. Not gonna happen in the autostick. Plus manuals are much more fun to drive and easier to keep track of what gear your in..... Do I need to push up 3 times to be in 2nd,,,, 3rd pedal forever...
did you bother reading when I posted "They also have a cool little mode that you can engage that make the automatic shift harder or softer depending on where you set it." that, seemingly obviously doesn't apply to your Wife's E90

At the rate BMW is going, 3rd pedals will be obsolete.

you mean spin one tire? no LSD on BMWs except M's, it's all controlled by ABS.
