oil light should have come on immediately... either way the chances of damage and worn internals are high.

pepper your angus cause you will probably run into issues down the road

And if you want to do an oil change without getting dirty, buy a MityVac. One of my favorite tools, and useful for a lot of things.

Wow. Everyone on here is so pessimistic.
Run it. If the damage is done the damage is done. If not, fuck it. No damage was done.

To say an E30 owner will run into issues down the road is kind of a waste of breath.....

please sell the e30 then if it's not worth your time. You may not see any symptoms until a few miles down the road and what are you going to do one month down the road? tell the garage they fucked it up after a month went by? Pretty unlikely.

You won't change your own oil because you'll get dirty?

I'm dealing with damaged M42 as we speak, friend drove it without any oil in it. The weird thing was, the oil pressure light didn't come on, even when it was completely empty. And that sensor was working for sure a month ago.

Anyways, you can be paranoid and listen to your idle everytime you come to a stop, or you can just suck it up and pull your lower oil pan. My big indication to fried bearings were the metal shavings in the pan, as well as metal-colored oil sticking to the main caps (literally the ground up bearings mixed with oil. Just make sure you save that new oil, stuff's expensive.

I dunno when I smashed the oil pan in my eta I ran it for proly a minute before the light came on and after shutting it off and looking underneath the car there was no oil left. You should have seen the metal chunks stuck in the oil pump pickup. That bitch ran for another two years and would have kept going if I didn't junk it.

I used to be like the OP, paying because a minuscule price difference. I stopped, because for the what they charge you, you can get a quality oil and filter. Next time ask them how much for a change with synthetic?

Seriously though, an M42 oil change takes 5 minutes and couldn't be easier with the front facing drain plug.

I do believe the oil light did not come on right away though. Just keep driving it, you'll be fine.
