How similar is a z4 m convertible to an e30 and what can be swapped over?

I ask because someone offered to sell me theirs for a price I simply cannot refuse (worth about as much as many of your e30s). I know that the s54 swap is rather hard (or so it seems) with it being a fairly new swap and all but what about the suspension? I know that z3 suspension is interchangeable with e30 suspension but is the z4 the same way?

I know that the differentials are swappable because I currently have one in my car at the moment.

Car is a convertible, and clean title. 54k on the motor, 6 speed transmission, perfect interior, and perfect exterior. It's nice but I would rather put what I can into another car and make that car that much more fun. Money for a project like this isn't an issue as of right now, but can be in the future if I don't play my cards right.

So, if anyone has information on these matters or can point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated.

    Please and thank you.

My brother bought a z4 for his wife. I drove it around for a little while and absolutely loved it. While it is not the most masculine car I really didn't have a problem with the looks and I loved whipping that thing around turns.

His only had the 2.5 engine, but it weighs so little that it was still fairly quick. It has the SMG trans. I like it but if it were my car I would want the standard.

I ran with my buddies s52 e30 and our friends e36 m3 coupe and they really didn't leave me as far behind as I expected.

If it were me I wouldn't tear down the z4. I would just keep it the way it is and drive it. With the s54 that could will be an absolute blast to drive.

So, is it Z4 coupe or convertible? It can't be both.

If it's a complete, running, driving car, you'd be an idiot to part it out- buy it and flip it and you can buy whatever parts you'd need to swap into your E30 AND have $$ left over.

            Color me skeptical.

Shifter, engine, transmission and few oddball things, but other that nothing much is interchangeable.

My apologies, it is indeed a convertible.

I'm not here to go into details of how this car will be acquired or the information surrounding it's history but basically it's legal, legitimate, and the conditions in which I am to receive the car do not allow me to keep it whole or complete. If this were the case, I would definitely not touch it and keep it as it is.

That is not the point of this thread.

What can be swapped from this convertible into an e30?

Not even suspension? I know the basis of the z3 platform was built directly from the e30's design with tweaks here and there, but can the same be said for the z4?

I'm mostly interested if I can swap over the whole 5 lug setup, bigger brakes, and other little goodies in the suspension department.

Or it can be that the z4 has completely redesigned suspension, but again, I am unaware of this, that's why I ask.

They're about as similar component-wise as an E46 to an E30 - not in the slightest.

The Z4 is almost 2 decades newer than the E30, of course BMW changed absolutely everything. This thread is a little embarrassing, dude.

Thank you for your response. I will disregard my suspension hopes and dreams and continue to pursue other dreams.

I may buy it and I may not. I lose nothing by not buying it.

Meh, I'm not embarrassed to post this thread because I got what I needed. I figured that if the differential could be swapped into an e30, and the z3 differentials could be swapped into e30s, and if the z3 suspension can be swapped into an e30, then maybe, the z4 suspension could be swapped into the e30 chassis as well. Wishful thinking, I know.
