New Owner needs help restoring E30

Hello - I've now owned my 1986 325es for a little under a month. I've fixed almost everything that was wrong with it, except I have one nagging problem. Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction to get this girl back on the road.

Car will start and run fine every time when cold, but as soon as it hits operating temperature (temp needle about half way) it stalls and won't start until it is cold again. There is no fan fare, it just stops abruptly.

    What I've done so far:

    Replaced fuel pump and filter
    Replaced ECU
    Replaced coolant temp sensor
    Replaced coil
    Replaced relays
    Replaced fuses
    Replaced spark plugs

Diagnostics when it stalls out and won't start:
Verified I still have fuel pressure
Verified that I still have 12V+ going to the coil on key ignition

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Possibly a bad cold start valve sticking open? #7 seen here:

Try unplugging it when warm and see if it runs.

fuel pump? the motor part of the pump might be overheating and then stopping. I had a E21 that did that too.

NitroRustlerDriver, I tried that before but after it had already died. Once it dies it won't start. I'll try it again running and see if it still dies.

mikeedler, I've already replaced the fuel pump. Plus when it dies, I still have plenty of fuel.

AirplaneBuilder, what's a 24v? I'm somewhat mechanical, but by no means a mechanic.

W24v is a 24 valve DOHC engine found in E36s, E46, etc. It is a popular swap to perform on E30s for a more modern, powerful powerplant.

I don't think that's really what you are looking for, however. Welcome to r3vlimited and good luck with the diagnostics.
For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!

Would the crank position sensor stall the engine when it's already running? I could see how it would stop it from starting.

OK - I'll give it a shot. I've read where even if the ohms test ok, the sensor may be going bad. So I'll have to swing by the Pick-n-Pull.

Any e30 crankshaft position sensor will work right? Mine has two since it's an es, so do I scavenge two sensors from two different cars?

                      Edit note I's are diff

they are both the same so you need 2 if you are replacing both

I don't mean to be dense, but I cannot for the life of me locate the sensors. I just can't see them, and the bentley's black and white pictures are so poor that the image makes no sense to me.

I would say fuel pump relay or key ignition troubles, but I see you already checked on...
