Did my e38 and now the e30 which i did twice at about a year apart. I dont mind cuz mine is a vert so its easier. Takes me about 3 hours with taping everything and about 8 to 9 cans.. When mine was satin black ( I used Krylon) i got so many people asking me where i got it painted and when i say it was rattle can they would freak out. Of course some people spray paint better than others but if your looking for budget which is what my car is then go for it. Best thing is if you ever scratch it or whatever you just dab a little and instant fix. Heres a couple of pics of when mine was satin black. Now i sprayed it grey.. Hope this helps...:D
how much did you spend in paint in total?

DOn't get me wrong, I can appreciate and respect anyone doing it for flavor or their taste but the fact that everyone does it makes it blah! Maybe its because I did the same and totally effed up.

if you cant afford even a medium quality paint job, LEAVE IT ALONE!
1. A medium quality paint job costs more than a lot of daily driver E30's are worth for the whole car.
2. Medium quality paint jobs can be screwed up and fail prematurely. A lot of recent drama on R3V surrounding this issue.
3. A lot of 25 year old BMW's have completely failed OEM paint (like mine). This is why rattle can, roller, and Maaco paint jobs are a viable option. The "all-in or nothing" paint snob mindset completely ignores the paint cost/car value relationship.
4. The paint on a track rat is going to take a beating. Good enough is good enough.
5. For the most part, our cars are not priceless classics. You are not going to ruin a piece of automotive history because you spray canned your sedan.
