    Dyno S38B38 stock chip vs Landzer chip

    Hello board,

    thought would share this dyno comparison, between the stock chip and the Landzer (germany) chip I sourced.

    First off, I would like to say, both runs were total bone stock engine except BOTH runs were equipped with the K&N dropp in filter (in stock air filter box).

    I also would like to comment that the BLUE (run 3) was made w/o being working the resonance flap (my mistake that I didn't check that while it made the pass) and the RED (run 10) I was able to hold in close position by hand, until the dyno operator, gave me the signal to release it at about 3.5-3.7K RPM's simulating the stock, or believed stock working operation. We played with this before in other runs and saw better gains doing this by hand at those RPM's.

    This means that the TQ band, that you see in the graph, not only the chip add more power in the entire band, but also my OWN INTERVENTION by manipulating the flap resonance with the Landzer chip, makes the comparison not so desirable but oh well....my fault for not checking that when did the first run with the stock chip.

    Gotta check why is not working the resonance flap. I changed all the vacuum hoses and checked the selenoid was working way before the dyno runs, to be more precise it was done when I was doing the "little Overhaul" few months back. Got some hoemwork to do now.

    I will post later few interesitng numbers in the mid range....it's awesome how much more power the engine picked up in not just the peak power values but also in the entire power band.

    These values are at the wheel. Dyno machine is a DynoCOM.

        Nice! 320whp is nothing to scoff at, even in a 2 ton car.

        Interesting how it falls on its face after 6500rpm or so. I thought they pulled hard to redline.

              Yes, as stated in my first post, is measured at the wheels. Aka, 320 RWHP.:D

              Interesting thing is that this chip makes the A/F richer and makes more power.

                      Wow, that's not bad at all. Maybe the s38b36 is more than a little different than the s38b38, but my '36 definitely doesn't lose power like that above 6500...

                        Here you can see the prototype of Vanos, his PAPA! How works...

                        Here is another comparisson, it shows pretty good what a not working resonance flap can do with your power. It explain my complaint regarding a flat/dead spot in the 3-3.5K rpm band I do feel/experience.

                        Please, note my first post explaining about the FLAP manipulation and see carefully at the bottom right of the dynograph the description and you will understand the differences or how does it work/influence the resonance flap.

                        GREEN= Stock operation but FLAP wasn't working = Didn't move

                        BLUE = Holding at full to oposite side of "rest mode" FLAP by hand all the run

                        RED = Holding the falp like the BLUE run and released at about 3.5k RPM

                        One more thing....this was done with a low end tq. gain chip, but unfortunatetly the RUNS made in the graph was wit the eddy brake ON (load for the rollers activated, mainly for turbo cars) by mistake of the dyno operator so it READS LOWER power, but don't focuse in the power, focus in the changes of the curve of power

                          Very interesting numbers... no doubt solid numbers for a B38... and signs you got a healthy and well running engine. Curious about the torque readings/calculation and correction factors used because your stock engine is putting down well in excess of the rated 295 lb ft of torque for a stock B38. Not doubting it but something you might want to look into to validate you are getting a good baseline versus stock tuning and BMW's stated power for this motor from the boys at M in Garching.

                          My stock 95 M5 dyno'd a few years ago and put down 287 hp and 257 lb ft of trq. Another 95 M5 touring ran that same day on the same dyno and put down 284 and 247 trq. Other known healthy 3.8 stock M5s here in the states have been seen putting down numbers between high 270s to upper 280s for hp and low 240s to upper 250s for trq. There is a known chipped 3.8 that put down 318hp after just a couple tuning runs so your hp numbers seem to be right on the money.

                          I just wanted to share to give you a point of reference.
