^ The ones above still have much room for improvement. How can you even call it close to being the cleanest when they still have non tucked wires everywhere, abs stuff, washer bottle, etc..

This is the cleanest. I dare someone to beat this: (with an e30 bay)

but even this one could be less cluttered with a radiator with built in reservoir.

For me, this LOOKS like a real car - clean yet functional. The VW in the OP looks like a toy and a case of trying too hard. Real cars FTW.

I feel the same way about muscle cars - I like the under-bonnet to look like a real motor. Wire tuck sure, but not the impractical deletion/relocation of everything else.

I never said the cleanest, It's a clean engine bay, I wasn't refering to shaving and deleting, etc. I think that takes away from an engine bay IMO

This thread is the very definition of "rice." What happened to the theory and practice of mechanical function taking precedence over form or aesthetics. And we're talking about shit under the hood! There's fewer than a handful of cars on this entire board that even have the potential to be a show car that would necessitate the modifications being proposed.

You: "Sorry, heater-core delete mod... the engine bay looks better without those two ugly hoses."

A clean engine bay doesnt necessarily mean shaving and deleting everything. Most of the bays pictured are simply shaven and cleaned up retaining practical all the function minus maybe the wiper tank? Function may take precedent over form, but its no excuse for a ratty looking engine bay.

as much as I love clean engine bays, I don't love shaved bays. I like my cars to be a little practical... if I have a bug on the windshield i want to get it off, if i have a problem with my wiring harness I don't want to take the fender off to get to a wire. M42 radiator, M3 firewall cover, and a little rearranging of certain things and I'm done.

And FWIW I think that S52 M3 would look a lot cleaner with the stock airbox, be it E34 or M30.
